From the beginning, the director Ali Kalthami explains to the audience the double connotation of the Arabic word “Mandoob”, which means “courier” but also “a person pitied for his misery and tragic end”. Mandoob – Night Courier – part of the feature film competition of the 41st edition of Torino Film Festiva – turns the same double meaning of the word into an ambiguous thriller connotated by a strong sense of humor, which shows the power of desperation in the protagonist’s misadventures.
Il regista Ali Kalthami esplicita fin da subito al proprio pubblico la doppia connotazione della parola “Mandoob” che in arabo significa sì “corriere”, ma anche “un individuo compianto per la sua miseria e tragica fine”. Quest’ambivalenza e duplicità semantica in Mandoob – The night Courier – presentato in concorso alla 41° edizione del Torino Film Festival – diventa anche la dualità di un thriller connotato da una forte vena umoristica, che racconta il potere della disperazione nelle disavventure del protagonista.
