Mario Soldati è stato un autore a tutto tondo, un intellettuale che si è dedicato alla letteratura, al cinema, al piccolo schermo, al giornalismo. È stato l’autore di se stesso, scrivendo e dirigendo la propria vita.
Nato nel 1906, è morto nel 1999: quest’anno ricorre dunque il ventennale della morte e si torna a parlare di lui a Torino, la sua città. Chi era Mario Soldati? Perché torniamo a parlarne? Corriamo il rischio di continuare a sottovalutalo ingiustamente?

Alejandro Amenábar returns to his homeland, the marvellous Salamanca, to film his new movie: Mientras dure la guerra (While at War). The city, home to a prestigious university, is the setting of the internal conflict the former chancellor Miguel De Unamuno went through after he supported the military revolt against the Spanish Republican government. When the military junta’s purges started taking place in 1936, Unamuno did not use his position to denounce the violence and the abuse of power, as a matter of fact he did not take a stand. However, he had to face reality,his family and friends, and his troubled conscience soon after.

“DREAMLAND” DI BRUCE MCDONALD
L’ultimo film di Bruce McDonald rispecchia perfettamente il suo titolo, Dreamland, dal momento che è costruito sulle regole e sulla logica tipica delle situazioni oniriche. Fin da subito ci si immerge in un sogno ad occhi aperti in cui i due personaggi principali si trovano coinvolti in una vicenda criminale. Il gangster dal cuore d’oro e il musicista jazz eroinomane, ambedue interpretati dal versatile Stephen McHattie, condividono inoltre una profonda connessione che porta entrambi ad avere visioni di un probabile futuro o di un passato remoto che chiaramente li riguarda. La vicenda diventa man mano sempre più complessa e intricata, arricchendosi di personaggi così spietati e grotteschi da risultare quasi comici.
