“For further information, see D. Bordwell and K. Thompson”, “see D. Bordwell, K. Thompson”: every film student has found these specific footnotes – or they have heard those two names, or maybe they have studied from their books at least once in their lives. Nevertheless, those distinguished names could still be perceived as far away from reality, they could be considered just as simple names, labels, quotes. That happens to Bazin, Kracauer, Morin, Zavattini, etc. But, on Tuesday, November 26th, David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson gave two lectures to a large group of students at the auditorium “Guido Quazza” of Palazzo Nuovo. Finally, bodies have been associated to their names, the content of a textbook became matter of a dialogue.
“Si veda, a questo proposito, D. Bordwell e K. Thompson”; “cfr. D. Bordwell, K. Thompson”: ogni studente di un corso di Storia del Cinema ha trovato almeno una volta note a pié di pagina recanti questi due nomi, o li ha sentiti nominare da un professore o si è ritrovato a studiare direttamente i loro testi. Tuttavia ai suoi occhi questi nomi, tanto illustri e sempre citati, possono apparire lontani e restare per sempre solo questo: nomi, etichette, citazioni. Così accade ai vari Bazin, Kracauer, Morin, Zavattini ecc. Ma non è accaduto appunto a David Bordwell e Kristin Thompson che martedì 26 novembre, presso l’auditorium “Guido Quazza” di Palazzo Nuovo, hanno tenuto due interventi di fronte a un nutrito gruppo di studenti. E così i nomi si sono finalmente fatti corpo, il contenuto di un testo da imparare si è fatto confronto.
